The New Ireland Provincial Government will be effecting the Vagrancy Act 2012.
Governor Julius Chan says the Act will give powers to remove those involved in serious crimes and persistent lawbreakers, including abuse of New Ireland’s customs and traditions.
Governor Chan announced this while receiving a petition from Lavongai Islanders after two men were stabbed by three Sepik settlers in Kavieng over alleged abuse.
Meanwhile, New Ireland PPC, Gideon Ikumu, has confirmed that the 3 suspects are in police custody, while the victims are at hospital for treatment.
