Sir Julius Chan Describes Late Steven Kama as a Real Friend of New Ireland

by Delly Waigeno – EM TV News, Port Moresby

Governor of New Ireland Province, Sir Julius Chan, today expressed his shock and sorrow at the passing of Steven Pirika Kama, the national parliament representative for the South Bougainville electorate and Minister assisting the Prime Minister on Autonomy and Bougainville Affairs.

Sir Julius described the late Kama as a real friend of New Ireland, and as a key player in moving New Ireland further along the road to autonomy.

Kama had supported autonomy for New Ireland while he was the Minister for Autonomy and Bougainville Affairs. He was a full partner with New Ireland, and in February 2013 he and Sir Julius signed the Declaration of Commitment to Autonomy for New Ireland in Kavieng.

Sir Julius said the late Kama will remain an inspiration to all to do their best to improve the lives of our people.
