PORT MORESBY, July 5 – Gold medals in eight different shooting disciplines will be decided over six days of competition beginning on Monday July 6 at the Port Moresby 2015 Pacific Games in Papua New Guinea.

Individual and team gold medals will be awarded in each discipline at the June Valley Shooting Range venue, with the first final being the women’s 10m air pistol at 11:15 on Monday.

Fijian shotgunner Glenn Kable is the leading athlete returning to Pacific Games action having dominated competition at the Noumea 2011 Pacific Games in New Caledonia.

Kable swept the field to win gold medals in all six shotgun events in Noumea – individual and team gold in double barrel, point score and single barrel – and has been winning Pacific Games gold medals since 2003. A total of 11 gold medals, two silver and two bronze in fact, and he will rightfully be favoured to be prominent on the podium next week.

Kable’s teammate Christian Stephen, who won three team gold medals and an individual point score silver medal in Noumea, will also compete in Port Moresby.

New Caledonia’s Philippe Simoni, is the single barrel individual silver medalist from Noumea 2011, and will shoot in all three shotgun disciplines in Port Moresby, as will 2011 double barrel bronze medallist Rob Maskell from Samoa, who additionally competes in the 10m air pistol and 25m standard pistol events.

Competition will be held in an indoor air pistol range and two outdoor shotgun rifle ranges and includes:

Five gender neutral events – 25m pistol, 25m standard pistol, single barrel, point score and single rise

Two female only events – 10m air pistol and 25m pistol

One men only event – 10m air pistol

The five pistol events conform with regulations of either the International Shooting Sport Federation (ISSF) or Oceania Shooting Federation (OSF), while the remaining three DTL (Down The Line) events are the clay target disciplines of single barrel, single rise and point score.

The first qualifying shots will be fired at June Valley Shooting Range from 09:00 on Monday in the women’s 10m air pistol qualifications with the final event being the points score final at 16:00 on Saturday July 11.
