Prime Minister Peter O’Neill, several of his cabinet ministers, and other heads of institutions, arrived in East Sepik yesterday morning to launch the ‘Sepik Chicken Grain & Cocoa Innovation Project’ alongside Minister for Trade Commerce & Industry – Richard Maru in his district of Yangoru Saussia.
With a footprint of six thousand hectares – a joint venture between Kumul Consolidated Holdings and Innovative Agro Industry Ltd an affiliate of the Israel LR Group.
The Sepik Chicken Grain & Cocoa Innovation Project is a 75 million kina investment majority owned by Kumul holdings, and to be managed by innovative agriculture holdings.
The project is intended to produce egss and poultry for the local market and stockfeed from local groan materials, and will include a 5,000 hectare cocoa plantation.
The project is located in the Urimo planes in the Yangoru Sassia district, the department of Trade Commerce & Industry has been investing significantly in the area to build infrastructure to enable large scale agricultural investments to be made in the area by investing in electricity, a water treatment plant and roads.
The Prime Minister was taken on a tour to inspect the latest developments in the district.
