A senior health officer at the Boram General Hospital in Wewak was attacked by relatives of a patient yesterday.
The health officer suffered knife wounds to his head and parts of his body.
Police in Wewak say the patient, a little boy who twisted his neck while playing, died at the hospital after receiving initial treatment.
After his passing, his relatives stormed the hospital, attacked the health officers and damaged properties inside the hospital.
This morning, a team of police officers raided and burned down several homes belonging to the suspects.
Meanwhile, a formal complaint has been laid with police but the suspects have gone into hiding.
