Sanap Wantaim Concert Launched

The joint campaign between NCDC and UN Women, the Sanap Wantaim campaign, today launched its Sanap Wantaim Concert that will be held at the Taurama Aquatic Centre on December 2.

The ‘Sanap Wantaim’ concert is part of the Sanap Wantaim campaign established to rally men and boys throughout the city to stand side by side with women and girls as partners and allies, to end violence in the city.

The Sanap Wantaim concert will attract international attention and capitalize on widespread support for the cause of safety for women and girls, here in PNG and abroad.

Vilupti Lok Barrineau, UN Women representative challenged everyone to find it within their hearts to make the city a safer place by changing their behaviour and attitude.

During the launch, NCD Governor Powes Parkop said that the campaign aims to use music to bring everyone together to make a statement to end violence in Port Moresby.

Also supporting the concert is Papua New Guinea’s renowned artist Jay Liasi, who spoke of how we can make Port Moresby a safer place for everyone; especially our women and girls.

Also helping with the preparations for the concert is Dr. Tim Corlis, a composer and music professor who will be working together with Jay Lieasi and the youth.

“We put a lot of emphasis on community involvement and encouraged the youth to take lead of the concert,” Dr Corlis said. He also said that the youth taking part in this concert have taken the lead in creating a pledge for this campaign.

“Music is a universal language that can be used to convey messages,” said Dr Corlis

NCDC and the UN Women Representatives are calling on business houses and NGO’s to join and help make Port Moresby a safe city for women and girls.
