Pangu Party Candidate, William Samb, was officially declared the elected member for Goilala at three this afternoon by returning officer, Kila Egaba.
His declaration comes nine months after the Goilala Open seat was left vacant following the death of sitting MP Daniel Mona.
Mr. Samb passed the absolute majority of 4,150 votes after the 31st elimination today after collecting 188 votes in the final elimination round which gave him a difference of 304 votes from runner up candidate Alex Robert to win the race.
His declaration was witnessed by Pangu Party Head and deputy opposition leader Sam Basil had made him eligible to immediately occupy the Goilala MP’s office.
Samb is not new to the principles of Pangu Party. Party leader Sam Basil said since Samb’s endorsement he had participated in a number of district meetings with the Bulolo District officials in Morobe.
“I can assure the people of Goilala that the recently appointed leader Willam Samb will become the first member of parliament to deliver district projects in his electorate before he is officially sworn -in into parliament, the party leader said.
“We will not waste time but will use the remaining 24 months to deliver our projects in Goilala,” Basil said. Basil added that no celebrations will be done in Port Moresby because there are services that need to be delivered in Goilala.
In his delivering speech, MP Samb said he wants to focus on improving the road network in Goilala and better the communication service in his district. This he plans to do in the next two weeks.
“I want proper communication service to reach the Goilala people and I will also look into building better road s in Goilala, Samb said.
He took over the lead from National Alliance Candidate Alex Robert during the elimination rounds and remained in front until the 31st elimination round that ended at 1:30 today.
His declaration comes after nine days of uninterrupted counting.
