Road Safety Resource Book Complete

A resources booklet on Road Safety in all government’schools has been completed and is yet to be published due to funding constraints.

The Council initiated this after statistics showed that school age children are more vulnerable to road accidents.

Last yearthe National Road Safety Council andthe Department of Education established a partnership by signing a Memorandum of Understanding to introduce road safety in tothe Education Curriculum.

The Council draftedthe teacher’s resource book withthe long term measures to minimise deaths onthe road.

Later it was simpliflied by teachers, curriculum and standard officers fromthe Department of Education togther with officers fromthe National Road Safety Council.

It also went through several consultations by ther teachers before it could be printed and distributed to schools to teach.

From statisticsthe Council said young children betweenthe ages of 1 to 15 years are at more risk of being killed in road accidents.

The Council believes teaching road safety among children in schools will save more lives.
