National Planning Minister Richard Maru, says the NID process is too slow.
He said people have been getting their NID cards months after registering, which is unacceptable.
Mr. Maru, instructed NID Registrar General Noel Mobiha, to ensure the NID processes are fast-tracked.
“We need to fast-track the process, to register people in weeks and not months or years…The signing and delivering of NID should be done in Provinces, not coming back to Port Moresby.”
Mr. Maru said this part of the process contributes to the delay.
In Morobe, the member for Bulolo, Sam Basil and Member for Tewai Siasi Kobby Bomareo signed MOU’s with PNG Civil Identity Registry (PNGCIR) to conduct NID registrations.
In August, the NID certificates and cards of up to 5, 000 people in the Bulolo District were given to Mr. Basil, and more mobile teams were sent to register people in the Wafi project area.
Mr. Maru says more MP’s should do this to fast track district registrations throughout PNG, by 2021.
“We will improve resources and capacity in the main provincial offices to improve our enrollments. We have between 2018 and 2021 to have all citizens over the age of 18 registered.” Said Mr. Maru.
