Public Warned to Stay away from Fallen Power Cables

By Jack Lapauve Jr – EMTV News, Port Moresby

Six houses at Gerehu’s Stage 6 were left with no electricity after work on a broken power-line was not fixed properly. Residents urged PNG Power engineers to return and do a proper maintenance.

The residents reported that work carried out earlier by responsible authorities has not been done to standards. Eye witnesses say a snap on the tampered cable caused the lines to collapse. This has caused power disruptions with 6 residents experiencing no electricity in the morning hours of the day. A PNG Power vehicle was in the vicinity of the incident, but made no attempt to speak to the affected residence.

A resident says the situation is serious with a number of similar cases experienced in the past. The public was warned to stay away from the fallen power cable. Residents blocked off the area while waiting for assistance.

Mr Larry says, such incident must be treated urgently. There were no reports of injuries during the incident, and no one was hurt when the live wire fell down. A similar incident happened last year at Gerehu’s Stage 3 with a primary school student killed by the live wire.
