Residents of Burnt Down Tasion Duplex Affected

A burned down police duplex at Tasion Barracks has left two police officers and their families sleeping in makeshift tents under the same building that was engulfed by fire three weeks ago.

Residents said the police department, PNG Power and PNG Fire Service have conducted investigations into the cause of the incident.

The two families affected are concerned that authorities have not come to their help swiftly in their time of need.

Sergeant Martin Mehaio and his family lost all property, worth thousands of kina in the blaze, however Sergeant Martin Fari and his family managed to save their belongings.

Speaking to EMTV News he said to date the police department has not come clear on moving them to a temporary shelter.

In addition, Mehaio said the longer they wait for repatriation the more they are vulnerable to sickness.

For health and safety reasons, he is calling on authorities for a quick intervention.
