by Stanley Ove Jr – EM TV, Port Moresby

It was a great relief for the people of Koiari, lower Sogeri yesterday.

They were given much-needed supplies from the Central provincial government. One-hundred thousand kina worth of goods and supplies were delivered to them.

The lower Sogeri people were most affected. They live along the slopes of the Sogeri mountains, an area that received most of the heavy rains over the last three days.

Koiari LLG President Joe Ogi said they were pleased with the immediate assistance from the provincial government. Ogi said, tonight families will be sleeping in tents, but will have something good to eat after their gardens and food supplies were destroyed by the flood.

In the meantime, Central Province Governor Haoda said major relief assistance will be rolled out in the coming days after a full report from the Central Province Disaster office is presented to him.
