by Dion Kombeng – EM TV Sport, Port Moresby

As the Papua New Guinea Raggianas prepare for the 2017 world cup next year, they met with players from the 1976 Womens Port Moresby Rugby League competition who wished them well as they prepare for the world cup today.

Women who were a part of the 1976 Port Moresby Rugby League Competition were at the PNG rugby football league office in Port Moresby, where they met the current national women’s rugby league team, the PNG Raggianas.

The women, who played in the 1976 POM RFL competition brought along photographs and newspaper articles from their league playing days, and the 1976 Premiership shield.

They also had encouraging words for the current Raggianas, and offered advice and support to the team.

A representative from the Raggianas thanked the women for their time, and said the team was grateful for their support.

Next year will be the first time the PNG Raggianas will be competing in a rugby league world cup.
