Rabaul Queen: Naru calls for Quick Action

Morobe Governor Kelly Naru has called on police for quick action onthe Rabaul Queen investigation.

 

Naru expressed disappointment that  relatives had been kept waiting for results  for the last three months since funds drlied up and investigators were  recalled to Port Moresby.

The Morobe Governor said relatives must be allowed to end one chapter withthe help ofthe investigations.

 

The Rabaul Queen’sank offthe Morobe coast in February last year. It took exactly one year and public pressure beforethe government acted onthe inquiry report.

 

Betthe investigation itself has been plague with funding problems. Three months agothe funds ran dry again stallingthe probe.

 

Overthe weekend,the Committee Chairman Tommy Yep highlightedthe three month delay sayingthe police commissioner should explain why this has happened again.

 

“I don’t know what kind of politics he’s involved inthe police hierarchy but as a man onthe street and an aggrieved person I wouldthe investigation to be completed and letthe matter go to court,” says Tommy.
 

The Morobe Provincial Government has been limited in its ability to act onthe Rabaul Queen disaster. It doesn’t havethe legal jurisdiction to act in matters such as maritime disasters.
