Pukpuks Ready For Challenge

by Lorraine Genia – EM TV Sports, Port Moresby

Two days away from game day and the PNG Pukpuks are ready to fight for the 2015 Oceania Cup.

Aiming for a win in all games, the team is aware of strong competition from Solomon Islands, Tahiti and American Samoa but remain quietly confident.

Coach, Sydney Wesley, has been impressed with the team’s combinations, and is adamant, the boys will deliver.

“The combinations have surprised me in a short period of time, with a lot of them coming from different competitions. How they’re combinations have unfolded over the past couple of days was good,” he said.

With the inclusion of players from PNG and Australia, the combinations have picked up, and may prove to be dangerous, as they embark on a journey to re-claim the cup.

American Samoa and Solomon Islands have a strong and heavy forward pack, and that is something Wesley is aware of.

“I know the forwards lay the platform for the backs, and how the game will unfold in the 80 minutes, and I am aware they have a couple of big boys, but we’ve got a couple as well, but we will play to our strength and that is to move their big boys around,” he said.

Solomon Islands arrived in Port Moresby today, and will be looking to use their forward pack as their main strategy.
