Pukpuk’s Seniors to Take Lead

By Dion Kombeng – EM TV Sports, Port Moresby

With the Singapore Rugby Sevens tournament set to get underway this weekend, a number of familiar faces will be amongst the team.

Amongst these are three of the most recognisable faces of PNG rugby: Buttler Morris, Wesley Vali and Tissa Kautu.

With the experience of playing on the world series sevens circuit and the Pacific Games, the boys have pledged their support to the younger talent within the team.

For Wesley Vali alone it is an honour being able to put on the national jersey, given his recent run of injuries.

Buttler Morris and Wesley Vali are no strangers to PNG rugby both recently playing in the Pacific Games and Oceania Cup.

This time their inclusion in the Turagus comes with greater responsibilities. With a number of new players selected straight out of the NPC sevens, the top try-scoring duo are expected to lead by example.

The Singapore Sevens will be a great avenue to mould the younger players and expose them to international competition.
