Public Employees Association: Salary Increment Payments Underway

By Meriba Tulo – EMTV News, Port Moresby

The Public Employees Association (PEA) has assured members that they are working with the Department of Personnel Management to ensure that outstanding salary increments are paid.

According to PEA National President, they had met with the Department of Personnel Management regarding the 2017-2019 MOA which captures the 3 percent annual increment.

Mr Kutapai says given the current financial constraints, these awards were not factored in the 2017 and 2018 National Budgets.

However, there has been some progress with the Government committing to beginning the payment process, beginning with teachers, uniformed personnel, and law and order sector employees next in line.

The PEA has assured the rest of the public servants that their increments will be paid beginning Pay Period 22 this year.

Furthermore, increments for 2019 will be factored in the 2019 National Budget as per an MOA between the National Government and the PEA.
