Protest in Kundiawa Over Dr. Kora Sacking

Secretary for National Planning & Monitoring Dr. Peter Kora said he was not given a formal notice of his sacking butthe decision has not gone down well in his province.

A protest was held in Kundiawa.

Dr. Kora maintains he is still legallythe Secretary for National Planning & Monitoring until he receives a formal notice.

Hundreds of demonstrators from all over Simbu province converged yesterday in Kundiawa town in a peaceful protest to call onthe governmentoespeciallythe Prime Minister to keep Dr. Peter Kora asthe Secretary for National Planning & Monitoring. The man in lead ofthe protest was former Simbu governor Peter Launa.

Supporters saidtheir grievances stem from not onlythe news of Dr. Kora’s sacking, but also of ther prominent lLeadersfrom Simbu inthe recent past.

A petition was handed over by former MP Waguo Goiye to Simbu governor Noah Kool inthe presence ofthe gthering andthe Kundiawa police station commander as well. They said ifthere was no favorable response,the Simbusegment ofthe Highlands Highway would be closed.

Governor Kool said he would ensurethe petition reachedthe Prime Minister.

Dr. Kora said his focus remains on servicin PNG and he appealed tothe people of Simbu province not to act outside ofthe law.
