Porgera LO’s Threaten to Shut Down Mine

A landowner group from Porgera Gold Mine has threatened to shut downthe Mine iftheir demands are ignored.

 

The Porgera Mt.Kare Young Generation Association has giventhe state fourteen days to respond.

 

Their demands includethe release of ten-million kina (K10m) earmarked for projects and review projects, suspendthe current MOA review, bringthe review to Pogera instead of Kokopo, and stop all payouts to landowner groups.

 

They saythe state owesthem six point one million kina (K6.1m) for the impact project funds. This moneythey say was already approverd onthe 27th of April 2002.

 

The association is one ofthe eight landowner group that has been benefiting fromthe 25 year old mine.

 

They saythey have received negative and unfair treatment from Mineral Resource Authority, andthey are now threatening to shut downthe mine.
