Popondetta Urban LLG Ward 2 will be wrapping up polling and commence with the counting by noon today.
Presiding Officer in Popondetta, E.D Raphaels explained saying, “In Popondetta LLG Urban there are 11 wards. Wards 1-5 is Urban; Urban (makes up Popondetta town vicinity) and 6-11 is Urban Rural. These are the wards surrounding Popondetta Town.”
They had a total of 10 male candidates contesting in this year’s LLG elections in Ward 2, but other wards, namely 3, 4 and 5 had women contestants.
Mr. Raphaels told EMTV News that during the nominations they encouraged women to also contest.
He said, “Out of 1606 eligible voters, the Polling officers have registered an estimated 800 voters .”
He added, ” The elections in my ward have been smooth. People came in at their own pace to cast their votes.”
However he heard reports that in other wards namely 3 and 4, they had a bit of turbulence yesterday. And polling for ward four was officially closed tested by Popondetta urban ARO.
Officer in charge of the police officers deployed to Ward 2 for the LLG elections, Sergeant Betty Kanari said, ” Since Monday it has been peaceful, no disturbance and the voters voted smoothly.”
“There was only one issue that we faced” Sergeant Kanari said, ” and that was people using another person’s name to vote. Other than that everything’s going smoothly.”
All declarations will be done at Popondetta electoral office.
