The Port Moresby Golf Club received a higher calling and is now known asthe Royal Port Moresby Golf Club.
The club is second inthe country to receivethe title fromthe Queen.
His Excellency Governor General oPNG, Sir Michael Ogio and wife lady Essmay, Patron ofthe Port Moresby Golf Club, Grand Chief Sir Michael Somare were present at this royal naming event.
It was indeed a rare occasion but for the Port Moresby Golf Club it is a timely boost tothe profile ofthe Club andthe sport of Golf as a whole leading up tothe 2015 games.
The Port Moresby Golf club with its members, junior members and guests were all present to withness this significant achievement inthe brief history ofthe Port Moresby Golf Club.
Past Presidents and those who have been life members ofthe club were obviously proud to be a part ofthe occasion. Amongthem David Toua, son of a pioneering founder ofthe club and Benson Kengali who says for mostthe club istheir second home.
To havethe Queen’s representative tothe country unveil and officially mark this royal milestone was a day that will go down in history.
The Royal Port Moresby Golf Club as it is now known has been and will be host to major fundraising events for charities and natural disasters and for its membersthe club will always holds a special place intheir hearts.
