POM AFL into Third Round of Pre-season Matches

Port Moresby AFL is into its third round of pre-season matches and hopes to gain more participation when the 2016 season launches in a few weeks’ time.

Senior Football Operations Manager, Rex Leka, said POM AFL is late with the competition this year due to most centrally located games venues being under construction.

Games are now being played at the Taurama Barracks after POM AFL recently received permit.

Despite having almost 20 teams including the women’s division participating in the competition, POM AFL is expected to have a very short season this year due to the approaching PNG Games.

AFL is expected to send two teams to the PNG Games, Team NCD and Central.

Leka confirmed that Team NCD is already in place and they are now focusing on putting Team Central together.

Selections for the 2017 Australian Football International Cup are ongoing and will continue during the PNG Games in which AFL PNG will identify more talent to join the national team, the Mosquitoes.

AFL PNG will also be on the lookout for talent on the women’s side as possible additions to the PNG Flames.
