Police investigates into shooting of students

Lae police have begun an investigation intothe death ofthe Begandi student who was shot and killed on Monday during a clash between Begandi and Lae secondary school students’

One student dlied atthe Angau hospital hours after he was brought in while anther remains in critical condition.

Police have been blamed for the shooting butthe Head of Police Operations in Lae, Fred Kaiwa, said he has instructed police investigators to get more information fromthe wounded student on how he andthe ther was shot.

The fight began when a protest by Begandi students’on Monday morning turned ugly when Lae Secondary responded tothe protest.

Classes for both schools have been suspended and police have been places in strategic locations to prevent more trouble; however,there is still some sense of fear among students’on both sides afterthe incident.

One parent frustrated bythe ongoing fights has called on thers to help resolvethe problem.

Meanwhile,the Lae MP andthe Community Development Minister, Loujaya Toni, met with principles of both schools. She is understood to have briefthe Prime Minister onthe matter.

The Police Commissioner, meanwhile, has also been given a brief on Monday’s shooting.
