Chinese Harbour Engineering is currently building new houses for police officers and their families residing at Tasion Barracks in Port Moresby.
This comes after residents prevented road construction near the Tasion Barracks taking place after their grievances had not been met.
Following the grievances raised by police officers and their families, regarding environmental damage and their personal safety, Chinese Harbour Engineering has come to aid with building materials. The new housing project is underway with construction work currently ongoing.
In 2014, 46 police officers and their families residing at Tasion Barracks submitted a petition to Chinese Harbour Engineering for the relocation of their homes prior to the road construction.
Some of their demands are pertaining to their health and safety, prompting them to ask for relocation away from the barracks.
Two weeks ago frustrated residents prevented roadwork at sections of the Tasion Barracks Road and called for the developer to settle their grievances.
Meanwhile, according to site supervisor Lawes Allan, 20 shipment containers of building materials have since arrived from China.
Building materials are designed for kit homes, with the scope of this scope of work to be completed within two months.
