Police Commissioner Gari Baki says the force can deliver a safe and fair elections, despite the country’s challenging economic state.
Baki said that while it will be challenging, he reassures the force has delivered past elections on limited resources.
The top cop made this statement in Kavieng while attending a parade for the NATEL Operations in New Ireland.
Addressing the joint forces, Baki maintained his confidence in the force to deliver what is required by law during this crucial era of the country.
Over 10, 600 policemen and women will be deployed for the Election Operations across the country.
Baki says the force is also stretched, with more focus being placed on the Highlands region. The Government allocated K121 million for the NATEL Operations in this National Election.
But Baki said the amount sounds bigger than its actual value to help the force with necessary resources for a smooth flow of events during the campaign, polling, declaration and formation of Government.
With less than 7 days left before the polls open, Commissioner Baki urged those involved in the elections to embrace the integrity of the Force to maintain transparency and public confidence.
