Beard Chairman oPNG Sustainable Development program, Sir Mekere Morauta has refuted claims by Prime Minister Peter O’Neil that BeP Belliton continues to controlthe Ok Tedi Mine indirectly.
It’s only involvement wasthe nomination of three directors tothe board, a practice that has ended, and a report it receives once a year.
Futhermore, Sir Mekere said BeP does not have any beneficial or financial interest in etherthe mine ofPNG DP.
He said BeP had no involvement inthe original decision to keepthe Ok Tedi Mine operating and it will not have any say inthe decision onthe current Mine Life Extension.
Sir Mekere sain PNG DP and Ok Tedi have been success stories forPNG overthe past decade.
