PNG’s Mosquitos Bring Home International Cup

The 2014 International Cup champions, our very own PNG Mosquitos, returned this afternoon to Jackson’s International Airport in Port Moresby.

This will be the second time the Mosquitos have won the title and they are already looking to retain it next year.

Jackson’s International Airport erupted into a chorus of cheers from anticipating family and friends when AFL PNG’staff and Mosquitos walked out of the arrivals terminal this afternoon.

Despite the long flight back and battling to keep the hype and excitement of their team’s recent success, a jet-lagged Rex Leka, AFL PNG’s Senior Football Operations Manager, was overwhelmed by their achievement.

With the success of the Mosquitos, AFL PNG continues to roll-out their junior development programs of which the majority of the Mosquitos have been selected from.

Their success now marks the second time PNG has taken the title away. They will prepare to maintain the International Cup on our shores next year.

John Ikupu Junior was awarded man-of-the-match.

Towering forward was Amua Pirika, who walked away as the lead goal scorer in the tournament, as well as the Port Moresby’s senior men’s AFL competition.
