PNGDF: Toropo New Brigadier General

The Papua New Guinea Defence Force (PNGDF) is poised for change under the command of Brigadier General, Commander Gilbert Toropo.

In his maiden speech today, Commander Toropo highlighted his plans for PNGDF.

Among the Commander’s priorities will be the journey to improving the capacity of PNGDF to that of base level operations, and to build the PNGDF’s capabilities in accordance to the 2013 Defence White Paper.

In his parting words, Brigadier General Commander Agwi called on soldiers to strive for excellence in their duties.

To the new commander, Agwi advised that he should carry on the good work by complying  with the constitution in managing and building a vibrant force.

As the 12th commander for the Papua New Guinea Defence Force, Brigadier General Gilbert Toropo understands fully his roles and responsibilities.

Force discipline, physical fitness, reviewing of the condition of service and infrastructure development are some of his key priorities this year.

He thanked the outgoing commander Brigadier General Francis Agwi for his stewardship through the four years as the commander during trying times.

Finally, it was a fitting send off to a man who served the force for 40 years since the age of 18 in 1974.

This is the last time Commader Agwi will be in his military attire before taking up his role as High Commissioner to New Zealand.
