PNG Weightlifters Return From Noumea

Our PNG Weightlifters are back from two weeks of intensive training in Noumea, New Caledonia.

It was a small reception at the Jackson’s International terminal by media, family and friends upon their arrival.

The effects of the two weeks training at the Oceania Weightlifting Academy were visible as they strolled past to a small reception at the Jackson’s International Arrival area.

Athletes, put on display the best the Academy has to offer.

The training was part of the Go for Gold program, aiming to prepare athletes for the 2015 Pacific Games and beyond.

Their first stop is the Oceania Championship, which will kick off mid this year in Noumea, New Caledonia.

Only 14 athletes returned from the 15 that engaged in the program.  One athlete was pulled back prior to her outstanding clean and jerk impression at the academy.

Coach Douglas Mea was impressed with the performance. He says the task now is to have the athletes ready for the Oceania Championships.

This will identify and find them spots in the 2015 Pacific Games squad.

Currently there are three weightlifting facilities available for the athletes to access; including Dika Toua’s and Douglas Mea’s Weightlifting clubs in Hanuabada village.
