PNG Track-and-Fielders Ready for Commonwealth Games

Papua New Guinea’s Athletics will be represented by two female and seven male athletes at this year’s Commonwealth Games in Gold Coast, Australia.

Triple Gold Medallist from the Pacific Games, Rellie Kaputin, will contest the long jump and triple jump, whereas young Afure Adah will run the 100m and 200m sprints.

Nazmie Lee Marai who won the 100m and 200m at the recent Pacific Mini Games will compete in two events along with his team mate, Wesley Logorava.

National 200m record-holder, Theo Piniau, will run in the 200m and 400m while young Ephraim Lerkin will contest the 400m and 400m hurdles.

38-year-old year old, Mowen Boino, will be competing in his 5th Commonwealth Games, will run the 400m hurdles, an event in which he has been unbeaten in Pacific Games competition since 1999.

Peniel is the PNG National Record-holder in both long jump and triple jump Penial Richard will contest both of these events at the Games and Debono Paraka will be competing in the Discus Throw and Shot Put whos also the National record holder in these events.

Head Coach is Phillip Newton The team will be steered Head Coach Philip Newton and West New Britain based Wilson Malana is the assistant coach and Nola Peni as the Team Manageress
