The increase of mining activities in the country is a wakeup call for the implementation of safety and emergency response mechanisms.
PNG has good safety management systems however in some instances lack in implementing these systems.
PNG Chief Inspector of Mines Mohan Singh says PNG safety and emergency response is world class.
He says the problem is not bringing in good safety management systems, but the problem is implementing these systems effectively.
Mining companies and the government should continue to improve and effectively implement safety and emergency response systems, for the good of their employers.
