Consultation Workshop Underway to Update National Partners and Prepare for COP22

Papua New Guinea’s preparations are going well with just ten days to the 22nd United Nations Climate Change Conference, also known as COP22 in Marrakech, Morocco.

Acting Managing Director of the Climate Change and Development Authority, Ruel Yamuna, said the State team will be looking to strengthen PNG’s position as a developing state in order to receive support.

Mr Yamuna made the comments today at the 3rd consultation workshop for Forest Reference Level for REDD+.

Acting Managing Director of the Climate Change and Development Authority, Ruel Yamuna, said the COP22 Marrakech [moor a kush] Climate Change Conference will be held from November 7 to 18 in Morocco.

He said the State team together with strategic partners and NGO’s will be attending to strengthen the country and region’s positions negotiated for and locked into the Paris Agreement.

In preparation for COP22, individual workshops have been staged around the development of a national forest reference emission level or forest reference level (FREL/FRL). The FREL is an important collection of data.

The three-day 3rd consultation workshop for Forest Reference Level for REDD+ is currently underway in Port Moresby to update national partners about ongoing workon the REDD+ Forest Reference Level, National Forest Monitoring system action Plan and the national inventory for forestry and agriculture.
