A submission on power tariffs, or cost of power production, has been finalised and will be presented to the National Executive Council (NEC) for approval.
Former PNG Defence Force Chief of Staff Retired Captain Tom Ur revealed this during the commissioning of a power generator in Maprik yesterday.
He said PNG Power is looking at ways of improving power supply to the people without having to spend on production costs. This proposed submission allows for anyone to produce power in partnership with their investors.
“The task of producing power will be open to those who have rivers to produce hydroelectricity or other sources of power.”
PNG Power will only purchase power from the producers at rates fixed by the government. Ur says uneconomical and bad management has plagued PNG Power in recent years and this is one’step in resolving that.
Recently, PNG Power has taken drastic measures to recoup monies owed to them by customers.
