PNG-Indonesia Border remains closed

The Batas Market on the PNG-Indonesian Border remains closed for business today following unconfirmed reports of a shootout at the border on Tuesday.

Heads of law enforcing agencies based in Vanimo held a Provincial Intelligence Committee Meeting yesterday and resolved to close the border while investigations continue.

West Sepik Police Commander, Moses Ibsagi said, the shootout comes following the ongoing clash between West Papuans and the Indonesian Army.
The PNG Defence Force and Police are maintaining their presence along the border.

Papua New Guineans living along the border and the public are advised to stay away from the border until further notice.
