By Merilyn Diau-Katam – EM TV News, Port Moresby

The PNG Health Support Workers Association is going into the elections for the Office Bearers for 2016-2017.

The PNGHSWA Interim General Secretary, Jack Suao, stated that the schedule for the election has been approved by the Electoral Commission.

The importance of the election is for the association to negotiate with the Department of Personal Management and National Department of Health on the Log Claim that was submitted last year.

PNG Health Workers Association, Interim General Secretary, Jack Suao, says the claims are genuine.

The association feel that they have been overlooked by the Department of Personal Management.

They say they work without proper services.

Mr Suao, stated yesterday that this would bring on better terms and conditions for its members.

“I’m urging the Department of Personnel Management that this is not a new thing. They (DPM) has been he favouring the clinical staff, telling them that they are special and are the dirty workers. This is not true.

We as a public service, we work under the National Department of Health and they have to get us on board” said Mr Suao.

The election will be in two parts; The NCD position for the National President, Senior Vice President, Vice President and Treasurer.

The General Secretary position will only be appointed by the National Executives after the declaration of results.

The election will be for its more than 2,000 members from fifteen provinces that were recruited by the PNGHSWA Interim Executive.
