The Papua New Guinean Under-19 cricket team, the PNG Garamuts, have suffered their second defeat at the World Cup qualifying event in Malaysia.

Ireland opened their campaign, smashing the Garamuts by a comfortable 111 runs, after posting a score of 271 from 48 overs.

Irish bowlers Rory Ander and Tom Stanton shook PNG’s run chase, with the side all out for 160 off just 36.4 overs.

It was only wicketkeeper Sere Sam who showed poise, scoring 68 runs from 89 deliveries, hitting six fours and a six.

In other matches, Nepal recorded a huge 171 run win over Uganda.

Nepalese captain, Raju Rijal, scored a century to help his side to victory.

The win sees the Asian side register their second successive victory at the ICC Under-19 Cricket World Cup Qualifier in Kuala Lumpur.
