PNG Defence Force Year in Review

By Lorraine Gabina – EM TV News, Port Moresby

The PNG Defence Force today held its end of year Commander’s Parade. PNGDF Commander Brigadier General, Gilbert Toropo, addressed members of the force, reviewing the year, in what he described as a year of achievement.

Commander Toropo proudly advised that the year’s targets for the Defence Force have been met.

Despite certain challenges, the year 2015 was fruitful, seeing many great achievements for the force. These achievements include Force growth, the establishment of the Ceremonial Guard and the reinvigoration of the Long Range Reconnaissance Unit among many others that ended the year on a high note for the force.

PNGDF Chief of Staff, Colonel Mark Goina, made comment on the recent incident between members of the Defence Force and the Police, saying that it is a civil matter and that the Force would like to see a joint investigation on the case to ensure proper measures are taken and it is not repeated in the future.

Among the ten men who received the Commander’s Commendation Award today for exemplary conduct, seven were promoted up the ranks, including two Australian Warrant Officers.
