PNG Customs to Work with ICCC

RecentlyPNG Customs Services signed a Memorandum of Understanding withtheIndependent Consumer and Competition Commission to tackle contraband issues and protect customers.

Customs Commissioner Ray Paul said many contraband products are frequently transported by road and sea under cover of darkness. They are delivered to coastal villages in East Sepik and Madang, and later distributed tothe Highlands and New GuineaIslands.

 

Customs will be installing an x-ray machine to check all goods enterin PNG, and CCTV cameras to monitor moverment of goods and people enteringthe country.

 

The technology is being used atthe Jackson’s Airport andthe Konedobu Post Office in Port Moresby. It will later be rolled out to Tokua in East New Beitain and Nadzab in Lae.
