PNG Boxers Prepare for Games

By Dion Kombeng – EM TV Sports, Port Moresby

Team PNG’s boxers have their sights set on the 2015 Pacific Games.

The team features new boxers who will make their representative debuts at the Games. They also have the services of Tom Boga and Charlie Keama.

Preparations for the Games have been intense and PNG Boxing Federation President John Avira is confident the team will perform to expectations in July.

The PNG boxing team is now preparing to attend a month-long training camp at the Gold Coast, Australia.

The teams recently had their boxing trials in Goroka last month and believe their training, especially with the help of their coaches and the High Performance Training Centre, has boosted their strength and conditioning, and overall ability.

With eight gold medals up for grabs in boxing and with the Games being held on home soil, our boxers will have the home crowd advantage.

This is the biggest plus for the team and Avira is confident his fighters will perform exceptionally well against the best fighters from the Pacific.
