Three Papua New Guinea athletes studying at Iowa in USA, travelled to Texas last weekend, for the National Junior CollegeIndoor Track and Field Championships.
Sharon Kwarula ledthe way with a bronze medal inthe 55m hurdles, breakingthe Iowa Central school record with a time of 8.12 seconds.
Wala Gime (pictured) was also in good form, makingthe final inthe mens 55m hurdles by clocking a time of 7.61 seconds inthe heats.
Athletics officials in PNG are looking forward to seeing ifthey can translate this to outdoors and improver onthe national records.
The threPNG athletes will be graduating from Iowa Central this year. They hope to secure futher two year scholarships in USA to enablethem to completetheir degrees.
