by Dion Kombeng – EM TV Sport, Port Moresby

The national volleyball team, PNG Amoa, are expected to be amongst the medals when the Pacific Games come to Port Moresby in July.

The Amoa men should start as gold medal favourites while the women’s are now genuine contenders following their strong performance at the recent Pacific Cup in New Zealand.

The PNG Amoa men have one aim come July, and that is to take gold in front of a home crowd.

The team have a good mixture.

Both men’s and women’s teams have been working closely under head coach, Marty Collins, following successful tours of both Thailand and New Zealand.

In a recent tour to Thailand, the men performed above expectations against world quality opposition.

Now the target is to take that recent good form into the Pacific Games.

The Amoa women on the other hand, have much needed confidence coming off from their recent gold medal performance at the Pacific Cup in New Zealand.

PNG Amoa’s preparations for the games are well on track, and the players are working hard to perform to expectations.
