PM :Orders stop to use of high powered firearms

Prime Minister Peter O’Neill has put an immediate stop tothe use of high-powered firearms by police on a daily basis.

Mr O’Neill prefersthe use of firearms to be restricted to special circumstances of national security and emergency operations.

Earlier last week, he directed Police Minister Nixon Duban to immediately orderthe return of all high-powered firearms to police armories.

Minister Duban has also been directed to reviewthe Firearms policy as part of a holistic restructure ofthe Police Force.
