Ryan Pini swam his best in the men’s 100m butterfly heat two event earlier this morning, clocking a time of 53.24 seconds.

The Canadian was the only swimmer in the heat to qualify for the semi-final clocking a time of 51.99 seconds.

Santo Condorelli rebounded from a fourth-place finish in Wednesday’s 100m freestyle swim final to qualify for the 100m butterfly semi-finals.

In the other heats as expected, Great Britain, Japan, China, Australia and USA have all qualified for the semis with American Michael Phelps and Tom Shields making their intentions known by aiming a top podium finish.

The top 16 swimmers from the six heats will advance to the semi-finals.
