SWANS Pinampio won Port Moresby Road Runners’ Air Niugini ascent race on Saturday afternoon.
Pinampio covered the tough 8.2km course in 33:47.
Donald Fraser led the race in the initial stages, but Pinampio hauled the confident Brit back on the climb up radar hill and accelerated coming down to finish over two minutes ahead of Fraser.
Cristi Morf was the fastest female in front of Linda Aiembo.
Those less conditioned struggled on the relentlessly steep radar hill, with many runners reduced to a walk, as the fit and the fast whizzed down the ascent passed them.
Next Saturday’s race is the Cristi Morf Challenge starting at the car park opposite Ela Beach Hotel in town at 5pm. Runners are warned that the race involves serious hill running.
