People’s National Congress Endorses Candidates

by Fabian Hakalits – EM TV, Port Moresby

Two candidates have been endorsed by the People’s National Congress to contest the coming by elections for West Sepik Provincial and Goilala Open.

The Prime Minister’s Party, PNC, has endorsed former Sandaun Governor, John Tekwie, to contest the West Sepik provincial seat and John Mona the brother of the late MP, Daniel Mona, for the Goilala Seat.

The two intending candidates met with PNG Deputy Leader, Mao Zeming, and Party President, Gareth Kising, on Friday. Their endorsement was accepted.

Mr Tekwie is not new to politics as he has previously lead a political party and its social and economic development platforms, similar to the PNC party policies.

Mr Zeming welcomed Tekwie and said PNC will work hard to deliver what the people in this important border province truly deserve.

The Sandaun Provincial Seat was declared null and void due to irregularities, as ordered by the National Court.

For Goilala Open, John is the younger brother of Late MP, Daniel Mona, who hopes to continue legacy started by his father Louis Mona, who represented the people of Goilala in the House of Assembly and later Parliament from 1968 to 1987.

“I want to continue the good work started by my brother Daniel. I helped him develop the Goilala Five Year Development Plan; the blueprint that I am certain will deliver much needed change to our people,” he said.

The Five Year Plan is aligned with the policies of the PNC party, and the O’Neill/Dion Government’s development agenda.
