Peace Through Peaceful Means Rugby Festival

By Lorraine Genia – EM TV Sports, Port Moresby

The Autonomous Region of Bougainville will host a rugby sevens festival over the festive season.

The event will take place over two weeks, with the Pacific in Union Schools Challenge on December 17, and the Provincial Tournament on Boxing Day.

The rugby festival will be driven with a Peace through Peaceful means message, to assist with the on-going rebuilding efforts of Bougainville.

President of the AROB Rugby Football Union and Executive Director of the PNG Sports Foundation, Peter Tsiamalili Jnr, says the tournament will be used to encourage peace through the children and youth of Bougainville, and also encourage the involvement of rugby union, throughout the community.

The tournament will also provide an avenue to expose new talent from around the region, as well as provide an opportunity to establish the level of rugby, in-region.

Following the schools program from December 17-18, a provincial tournament will take place between December 26-27, and for the first time a women’s competition will also be introduced.
