Principal resource owners of the second LNG site in Papua New Guinea are in support of the government’s decision to pipe gas to Caution Bay in Central Province.
Making their first public appearance, the Pawaya Resource Owner Association from Wabo in Kikori District say they have made their position known to the government.
They are the landowners of Petroleum Retention License Areas 15 and 39.
The association are holding opposite views to what the rest of the people of Gulf have, and also those of the province’s leaders.
Gulf Governor, Havila Kavo, and other open members from the province have opposed the announcement to have gas piped out and processed in Central Province.
This makes the Pawaya Resource Owner Association the only group to be supportive of the proposal to process LNG outside of Gulf.
They will be meeting with the Petroleum and Energy Minister to present their position.
Project developer TOTAL SA and its partners are yet to release an official statement on this matter.
