Parkop: Reserve Police to Continue Normal Operations

by Eric Haurupma – EM TV, Port Moresby

NCD Governor, Powes Parkop has announced that the NCD Commission Reserve Police will continue to carry out its normal operations.

Governor Parkop made this statement in response to the Police Commissioner’s move to disband the Reserve Unit following the Hanuabada killings earlier this year.

He said in order to disband the unit, there has to be a circular from the Police Commissioner’s office verifying its termination.

“NCDC has not received any formal advice from the Commissioner stating the unit’s dismissal”.

Parkop added that this unit is still intact and will continue to carry out its normal operations.

The NCDC Reserve Unit was formed after a Memorandum of Understanding was passed between the Police and NCDC last year.

It is responsible to assists police in implementing government policies that are within the capacity of NCDC as per the NCDC Act 1990.

These policies ensure that government organisations, stakeholders, and city residents embrace and comply with for the best interest of this country.

Governor Parkop said since police are not carrying out their rightful duties, NCDC have stepped in.

“NCDC Reserve Police will carry out its normal operations to enforce betelnut ban in the city”.
