Parkop plans on imposing development tax

NCD Governor Powes Parkop plans to impose a development tax on investors acquiring land in Port Moresby.

This is followingthe eviction atthe Arts Centre Settlement in which four thousand people have been removerd.

Governor Parkop’says a development tax would coverthe costs such as relocation of people and infrastructure projects.

Governor Parkop’saidthe recent spate of evictions inthe nation’s capital carrlied out by developers has been done with no foresight ofthe consequences.

That has forced him to impose a tax on all development activities withinthe city boundary.

The NCDC is also currently undertaking its Urban-Development Plan.

Withthe on-set of increasing developments,the commission wants developers to talk meet withthem sothere plans can be incorporated.

City Hall says continuous development withoutthe consent or knowledge ofthe municipal government must stop.
