Parishioners Raise Funds For New Building

By Fabian Hakalits – EMTV Port Moresby

The Saint John the Apostle Catholic Parish in Tokarara, Port Moresby, has launched a fundraising drive for their new church building.

The new church building will accommodate the growing parishioners and different spiritual activities that help to foster faith.

Efforts into raising funds for the construction of a new church building have begun. This is because the original building built in the 70s, can no longer accommodate the parishioners and different spiritual ministerial activities that occur.

According to a statement released by the Parish Pastoral Council, the finance committee aims to raise K5 million within three years, before the construction work begins in 2017.

The parish recently hosted a corporate dinner in Port Moresby as a start for this fundraising drive.

The finance committee projects that K500 000 will be raised this year.

Bishop of the Bereina Diocese, Rochus Tatamai, was at the corporate dinner and in his speech thanked the Parish Pastoral Council and its parishioners for taking the initiative.
